Sensory Circuits at PPS

At Penllergaer Primary School, we use Sensory Circuits to help our learners feel calm, focused and ready for the day ahead. These short, structured activities take place before learning begins and are designed to support children's sensory processing needs through a series of fun, engaging movements.

A sensory circuit is made up of three stages:

🔵 Alerting Activities – helping children wake up their bodies and minds through activities such as jumping, skipping or bouncing.

🟢 Organising Activities – supporting coordination, balance and concentration through tasks that encourage children to plan and control their movements.

🟣 Calming Activities – helping children regulate their emotions and prepare for learning through slower, more calming movements and exercises.

Many children benefit from opportunities to move before sitting and concentrating in class. Sensory Circuits can improve attention, focus, self-regulation and readiness to learn, helping children feel more settled and confident as they begin their day.

At PPS, we recognise that every child is unique. Our Sensory Circuit provision is just one of the many ways we support pupils' wellbeing, ensuring they have the best possible start to each day and are ready to engage positively with their learning.

"Helping our learners regulate, focus and thrive, one step at a time." 💙💚🧡
