ELSA Support

At Penllergaer Primary School, we know that children learn best when they feel happy, secure and supported. One of the ways we help to nurture our pupils' emotional wellbeing is through our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) provision.

ELSA provides targeted support for children who may need a little extra help understanding and managing their emotions. Through carefully planned sessions, pupils are given the opportunity to talk, explore their feelings and develop strategies to help them cope with a range of situations both in and out of school.

ELSA sessions can support children with:

💛 Building confidence and self-esteem
😊 Understanding and managing emotions
🤝 Developing positive friendships and social skills
🌈 Coping with worries, change or difficult experiences
🗣️ Improving communication and emotional vocabulary

Activities are tailored to the individual needs of each child and often include games, stories, creative activities and opportunities for reflection, making learning about emotions both meaningful and enjoyable.

At PPS, we recognise that emotional wellbeing is just as important as academic achievement. By helping children develop resilience, confidence and emotional awareness, our ELSA provision plays a vital role in supporting both wellbeing and learning outcomes across the school.

Mrs Robinson and Mrs Barrett are our school ELSAs.

By investing in our pupils' emotional health, we are helping them to become happy, confident learners who are ready to thrive both in school and beyond.
