Our spotlight for success last term was Penllergaer Primary School

The focus of the case study is: Chwarae i Dyfu: ‘Play to Grow ‘at Penllergaer Primary School

Penllergaer Primary School has transformed its practice through 'Chwarae i Dyfu' meaning Play to Grow, shifting from traditional adult‑led routines to a more purposeful, play‑based approach. Staff engaged in professional enquiry, redesigned learning spaces, and introduced structures that promote independence and meaningful play. The impact has been clear: children show stronger social skills, emotional resilience, confidence, and deeper engagement, with parents and staff noticing the positive changes. The case study highlights that developing effective play‑based learning takes time, reflection, and ongoing professional development.
